Capabilities Statement

Transforming Lives

SGVCC is an intensive program that helps disadvantaged and/or disengaged youth develop the motivation, self confidence, work skills, and education, e.g. attainment of high school diploma, necessary to take advantage of an opportunity to succeed in life. Guided by adult leaders, who serve as mentors, role models, technical trainers and supervisors, SGVCC participants work in crews of 5 to 10 to rebuild or revitalize blighted areas in their communities.

Core Competencies

  • Habitat Restoration: trail building/maintenance, ditch clearing, brush removal and hauling, non-native tree and species removal, erosion control, urban forestry tree planting and irrigation installation.
  • GreenBuild Construction Services: Construction clean up crews, landscape maintenance services, handy man services, and fencing installation.
  • Community Improvement Services: Business improvement maintenance services, tree trimming, landscaping, bulky item removal, hauling, graffiti removal, homeless camp cleanup services, blighted property and lot maintenance.
  •  Recycling Services: Collection services, special events litter abatement and recycling services, and recycling education.

Accomplishments

  • SGVCC has planted over 9,500 trees
  • Diverted 5.5 million pounds of recyclables from the waste stream
  • Improved 20+ homes
  • Restored 100 miles of trails
  • Provided habitat restoration to 300+ acres
  • Removed 150,000 square feet of graffiti
  • While providing job training and education to over 3,500 SGV youth.

2017-present: City of Industry: fire fuel reduction, native species protection, trail construction, weed and brush removal, tree felling, bucking and swamping and construction mitigation.

Mission

``The mission of the San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps (SGVCC) is to develop and transform disadvantaged youth in the San Gabriel Valley by providing academic, vocational, and leadership development while also employing them to provide valuable services to improve their communities and the natural environment.``

Education

The SGVCC is an excellent stepping stone to advance in non-traditional job training and education. We embody teamwork, self-discipline, determination, commitment, dedication, ambition, and responsibility. These characteristics are highly sought after by potentials employers.
